Since its opening in 1922, the Hollywood Bowl has been the premier destination for live music in Southern California, hosting everyone from Billie Holiday to The Beatles to Yo-Yo Ma under the iconic silhouette of its concentric-arched band shell.

In 2016, it played host to EDM superstar, KYGO. It didn’t take long for KYGO to go from bedroom producer to one of the most hyped electronic artists on the planet – with his first original track ‘Firestone’, amassing over 40 million plays on Spotify, peaking at #4 in the worldwide Spotify chart.

 

The challenge.

To help advertise KYGO’s hotly anticipated performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, we were asked to produce a creative teaser trailer.

 

They were looking for something a little bit fun and unique that would help to generate a buzz around the event and generate more ticket sales.

 

Our solution.

Demonstrating how different media can be combined to enhance storytelling – we worked closely with Jade at Studio Spranks and seamlessly integrated some live-action footage of KYGO with overlayed animations.

 

The style of animation gave the video a sketch-like quality, adding some colourful visual elements that juxtaposed against the dark and classic look of KYGO playing the piano.

 

With just 30 seconds to play with, we focused on creating an atmosphere with KYGO’s music in the background. It closes with the iconic logo, followed by the event information.

 

The results.

Buzz-generation: The animation teaser was designed to create a buzz around the event,

Ticket sales: The event was completely sold-out, with much anticipation around Kygo’s performance.

Audience engagement: The video was designed with a mixed audience in mind, tailored to appeal to KYGO’s diverse fanbase.
